Royal Romance

Princely Tours of Scotland

Love is in the air: Will and Kate will tie the knot any minute, so now is the time to embark on a grand tour worthy of the prince and princess-to-be.

For your U.K. honeymoon, pop over to Scotland to visit the young lovers’ favorite Scottish spots, from the coastal town of St. Andrews where they first met to the fair city of Edinburgh. Get out your tartans and spend a Windsor-inspired week winding through the scenic countryside to Isle of Skye, Castle of Mey, Loch Lomond and even Balmoral where the royal family goes for a little R&R. Cozy pubs and quaint bistros await, then retire to a private nook at the elegant George House in Edinburgh or the luxurious Culloden House in Inverness.

It’s fit for a queen.

Chantilly Weddings: Kara & Jim

Kara Scheidel & James Liedka: 11/13/10 in Montego Bay, Jamaica

A lover of the beach, Kara always dreamed of a tropical wedding. “I really loved Jamaica and knew Jim would feel the same way,” she says. After Jim proposed in the backyard of their Florida vacation home, the Brooklyn couple chose the Half Moon resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica as their ideal destination. “I envisioned a chic beach wedding with boho touches,” Kara says.

To jumpstart the wedding festivities at Half Moon, the couple hosted a casual beachside welcome barbecue where their friends and family indulged in an elaborate buffet of Jamaican cuisine. A steel band provided the dancing music and guests enjoyed a lively show that included local dancers, flame throwers and a contortionist.

The morning of the wedding, the groom and several friends teed off at the resort’s golf course while the bridal party relaxed at the Fern Tree spa. That afternoon, 45 guests gathered at the beachside Orleander Terrace at Half Moon to watch Kara and Jim exchange vows. A violinist played a selection of Beatles music for the wedding processional, then the bridesmaids and groomsmen entered to “Let It Be” while the bride walked down the aisle to “And I Love Her.”

Following the ceremony, guests sipped Jamaican Sunsets, the wedding’s signature drink made from Myers dark rum and fruit juices, while a steel band played in the background. After sunset, the reception kicked off with Kara and Jim’s upbeat first dance to Peter Franti’s “Hey Now” followed by a sit-down dinner of petite filet with strawberry grouper and spicy jerk chicken with grilled shrimp. The lively celebration overlooking the ocean continued into the wee hours with an afterparty at one of the six-bedroom villas reserved for the guests. “I think I danced to every song that night,” Kara says. Looking back, Kara’s most memorable moment was seeing Jim for the first time on their wedding day. “He had tears in his eyes. It was the happiest I’ve ever seen him.” Jim adds, “It really sinked in that we were husband and wife.”
